Katy Mills Opens H&M

Today...August 14th, 2014...is my brother and sister-in-law's 4 year wedding anniversary!! Yay! I'm so excited for them! I love them so much and wish they were closer than Kansas.

Not as important as that, but still happened today...was the Katy Mills H&M grand opening. It happened at noon. For those of you who don't know what H&M is, they are a fashion store who sell clothing for men, women, and children AND it's good clothing that is well priced. Meaning, I buy their clothes because they are in my price range of usually having clothes between $5-25. That is a deal! The suits for men and dressy clothes are more expensive, obviously, but still well priced for professional wear. Another bonus is that they have plenty of modest clothes!! This is important, because shirts that are cut-off to show your mid area is NOT ok. Especially for a working woman (teacher) like me. I need to find work clothes that are appropriate and not expensive, teacher budget, and they have this.

Anyways, the reason behind this post is that H&M has been advertising that the first 100 people that come to the grand opening get a chance to win $300. I had been pondering for a few days if this chance was worth my time. Well this morning in the wee hours of 4 AM, I decided it was! (I was up this early because the time change from Europe is throwing me off) After sending husband off to law school orientation at 7 AM, I packed a lunch, water, and book and headed to the mall. I got there at 7:45 AM and there was already a line. I was nervous that with even being 4 hours early, I would not be in the top 100. After hearing someone doing a head count, I was in the upper 60s...score!! I took a seat and got comfortable.
After listening to the radio on my phone for a little bit, I decided to get to know the people around me! This was the best choice. Not only did the time pass faster this way, but I met some really cool people. The person behind me had her niece and 2 year old son with her. The wife's husband, who I talked to the most, actually works for the mall...pretty high up. He has so much power that when H&M told everyone we had to stand the whole 4 hours while we waited, that he talked to them and allowed us to sit down...score. Anyways, this wife was amazing. I talked to her about all kinds of things and felt like I truly gained a friend. Thank you CM for being so friendly to me! :)

While I waited, they handed out H&M water bottles and goodie bags to the first 100 people. So exciting! In my goodie bag was an H&M magazine, shirt, umbrella, lanyard, and luggage tag. So awesome to get free stuff! Then they game by with gift card redeemable cards to the first 100 people saying that you're almost there. Yay! I had made it into the top 100! Then, about 45 minutes later they came by and swapped these with the real gift cards of free money. This was the moment I had been waiting 3 and a half hours for. People were scratching off cards around me. A lot of people had $10. I then scratched mine off...I had won $25!! Woohoo! Better than nothing!!

On top of that, I got a 20% off one item of my choice coupon and a 15% off one item coupon for turning in a bag of used clothes (thanks mom for bringing this to me).

When the 4 hours of waiting was up, I finally got to go inside. I looked around and priced things out. They were having opening day sales, which are great! Ultimately, I went in with the goal in mind to shop for husband. He fell in love with H&M when he lived in Sweden for 2 years and has been eyeing suits there since he discovered the place. I walked out spending $50 on $100 worth of stuff! This doesn't include how much the stuff in my goodie bag would've cost. Not bad I would say! I bought a new suit coat, suit pants, and leggings. I would say that I was successful. I don't regret waiting the 4 hours to go to the grand opening! It was such a good experience and I had the honor to make friends while doing it :)

Ta ta for now!
